Southwick Park – Phase I

Subject: Substantial internal alterations to a psychiatric rehabilitation facility and a new stair link

Site: Gloucester Road, Tewkesbury

Status: Unknown

Value: Unknown

Details: Southwick Park is set in extensive grounds of approximately 12 acres and is situated just to the south of the small market town of Tewkesbury. The overall scheme involved extensive elevational treatments, internal configuration and external landscaping proposals, to form residential and teaching spaces for an independent boarding school designed specifically to be suitable for 40 children and young adults with various spectrum disorders. The specialist use of this site increased the need for attractive and accessible buildings, with an ‘inclusive’ design approach to enable and empower those with SEN and disabilities to participate fully in life at school and in the wider community. Our proposals create environments and spaces suitable for the security and educational needs of the occupants. We developed the scheme to focus around a comfortable environment for the end users, however appearance was not compromised, and the end result was a contemporary design that was both comfortable for the end users and visitors alike.
