Subject: Re-development of an existing school site, including the refurbishment of an existing building and a new build 70 bedroom care facility
Site: School Lane, Staunton-on-Wye
Details: The former school at Staunton-on-Wye was designated a Conservation Area by Leominster District Council in 1994 and the building listed as Grade II of Architectural or Historic interest in 1997. The brief called for the sympathetic re-development of the site with the conversion of the existing vacant and dilapidated old school building and the positioning of a new build to the rear of the old school with associated landscaping and car parking for both developments. We proposed to convert the existing building to provide accommodation for 15no. flats with the building being unaltered externally except for the demolition of the two in-filled cloister style wings as agreed with the Conservation Officer so as to allow the construction of the new two and a half storey high, 70 bed care facility which will be built around the existing single storey central extension to the rear of the existing building. The proposals will provide self-contained flats, guest accommodation, communal space and offices within the conversion of the existing building and bedrooms, communal & activity space, office, kitchen, laundry and all associated facilities for the new build care facility. The two proposals are not to be linked as the purpose of each building differs in their occupation.
